Following the official mass production of Qirin batteries last month, the new generation of battery-condensed batteries of CATL is also about to be released.
CATL will release condensed lithium battery technology and zero-carbon strategy.
What is condensed state ?
A condensed state of matter is a system that consists of a large number of particles with strong interactions between them.
The core of condensed state batteries is to achieve superfluidity, superconductivity, stability, and superior performance. Simply put, the battery is more stable, larger capacity, and faster conduction efficiency. The important material for realizing condensed batteries is graphene.
At present, condensed state batteries may also be classified as a kind of semi-solid batteries in a sense, which is a condensed electrolyte with liquid components, no flow and strong adhesion.
Semi-solid batteries are a transition technology in the development process from traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries to solid-state batteries.
CATL’s Condensed batteries
On March 24 this year, CATL said that compared with solid-state batteries, condensed batteries can achieve mass production faster, and achieve both high specific energy and high safety.
So, what performance information does the condensed stage battery of CATL ?
It is reported that NP2.0 technology is the second version of CATL’s battery safety technology.
NP2.0 technology adopts “high-voltage and flue gas active isolation technology”, which can be compatible with different battery chemistries and is greatly improved in safety compared with the previous version of technology.
In other words, NP2.0 technology is added to the already safe condensed state battery, thereby improving the safety performance of the battery by a large margin.
High energy density
One of the main advantages of condensed state batteries is their high energy density. Compared to existing lithium-ion batteries, condensed state batteries can store more energy per unit volume or weight, which makes them ideal for electric vehicles that require high energy storage capacity.
According to CATL, the energy density of their new battery exceeds 500Wh/kg, which is significantly higher than the energy density of conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Fast charging
Another advantage of condensed state batteries is fast charging capability. While conventional lithium-ion batteries typically take several hours to get fully charged, condensed state batteries can be charged in minutes.
The market believes that once the condensed state battery of CATL is launched, the potential impact on the battery market may be huge.
If commercialized on a large scale, condensed state batteries could revolutionize the EV industry and other applications that require high energy storage and fast charging.
CATL itself can also reduce the cost and environmental liability of battery production by using fewer rare earth metals and other expensive materials.
What is the specific product information, it is to be officially released by CATL.
